My name is Dhiren Mahiban; I am a second year Broadcast Journalism student at the British Columbia Institute of Technology. However, BCIT is not my first journalism – related education I also attended journalism school at Kwantlen Polytechnic University – where I completed a Minor in Public Relations, a Diploma in Applied Journalism and am completing my B.A. in Applied Journalism.
Through my educational endeavors I’ve managed to collect a wide array of hands on experience in the field of journalism. I’ve interned and worked at many stations in both sports and news including: GlobalTV, CBCSports.ca/CBC News and the Abbotsford Times. Within my experiences I’ve done everything from answering phones and researching to writing script, cutting highlights and conducting interviews for TV stories. Additionally, I’ve assisted during production of major news events including: the Air India verdict and the death of Pope John Paul II.
Lastly, through both my education and hands-on experiences I’ve gained invaluable skills that translate well in any working newsroom. Not only am I capable of writing for TV or the web, but I can also shoot and edit TV stories on a non-linear platform.
